Modern technology can be neat

So I'm watching the World Series of Poker on my cable-box DVR (and fast forwarding past the idiot ads for Milwaukee's Best Light -- see redneckgaijin's rant) when a test of the emergency message system (cable version of the old Emergency Broadcast System) appears at the top of the screen. "Fat lot of use this is to me now," I think, "finding out about an emergency, if it had been an actual emergency, four hours after the alert went out."

Then at the end of the alert it posts the time: 2 a.m. It's a current message. If an actual emergency happens, it can interrupt my DVR playback to tell me so. (And when I rewound, the message was gone.)

I think that's kinda neat...
