Good news, bad news on Rita

Good news: The current forecast track takes the eye well to Waco's east, meaning Waco would only(!) get around 40 mph (not all that uncommon around here -- maybe once or twice a year).

Bad news: This is because the track has shifted eastward.

Over Freeport. Which puts the strongest winds blowing right up Galveston Bay.

UPDATE: The 4 a.m. forecast track has it coming ashore right at Galveston as a strong Category 4. The next forecast tracking point is Cuney, on the southern tip of Lake Palestine 180-200 miles inland, as a just-barely Cat-1.
