Her sodium's still a little below par, but only a little. It was apparently the change in diet after her surgery combined with the Lotrel side effects that triggered things. She's off the Lotrel now; I haven't heard what they've replaced it with, if they've replaced it with anything.
Thank you all for the GoodThoughts...
Mom checked out 100% on the heart test, so now they think it's her blood pressure drug -- Lotrel -- that caused her sodium levels to drop, and they've put her on another one. She's out of ICU and Pat suspects they may send her home tomorrow.
My sister Pat has something wrong with her eyes. Mom couldn't remember the name of it, but it has something to do with corneal blisters (?), is supposed to become quite painful and the doctor said there's no cure (possibly he said there's no cure short of corneal transplant). Mom told me this when I called her on Monday.
Tonight Mom's in ICU. She'd been shivering much of the day and her body temperature had dropped. Pat finally talked her into going to the ER (the family practitioner had been booked up) and as they got near the ER Mom started having chest pains.
Nitroglycerin made the chest pain go away, but her sodium levels turned out to be very low. So she's in ICU now while they figure out what's going on with her.
We could all use some GoodThoughts right at the moment...
...but Dinsdale isn't. Turns out he'll need one of his teeth extracted, so he's staying at the vet an extra day and change.
Just called my brother. Mom's doing fine.
She's in her own bed right now. Pat's taping the great-grandkids' get-well drawings around the room. I've got a cup of tea waiting to go in to her when she's ready for it.
Thank you all for your prayers and GoodThoughts.
The doctor gave her a very good prognosis and said she may get to go home tomorrow. Her catheter is out; she's much more alert and much less nauseated than she was. It's looking extremely hopeful.
The expected roommate finally materialized, so brother-in-law and I had to go home at dark.
Brother comes in sometime tomorrow to take a week helping. I go back to Waco on Sunday.
(UPDATE: How in the hell did it change my mood icon from "hopeful" to "horny"?)
Mom came out of surgery earlier than expected, everything went swimmingly, she may not even have to stay in the hospital as long as expected. I'm at Mom's now. Fall down go thud...
...which is only open regular business hours. Don't know yet about access in the rooms...
Left Waco around 9 p.m., greeted by the full solstice moon, big and beautiful. Lovely foggy night that made me wish I was a passenger rather than a driver so I could actually admire the scenery. Discovered that the Dr Pepper Museum bottle seal did not actually seal the glass Dr Pepper bottle, but nothing important was spilled on. (The bottle, purchased at the museum which is four blocks from work, contained DP made with actual sugar rather than corn syrup.)
Made it here about 4:30 a.m. and spent the interim exploring the grounds, making particularly sure to note all food sources. Pat and her husband Larry arrived with Mom about 5:45, and Pat immediately went into pre-op with Mom. Larry and I got to go in a bit later once most of the prep work was done. They're operating now.
The internet room is off an office with a number of loud, cheerful women trading stories. Lots of laughter. Part of me annoyed, part of me enjoying it...
Just about to shut down the Mac mini for transport. Mom goes in at 5:30 a.m., surgery at 7:30. Packed the LotR Extendeds, season 1 of Babylon 5, Seasons 1-2 of Red vs. Blue (did I mention I'm packing headphones, also?), 2 puzzle magazines, the new issues of Discover and Scientific American, 1776 by McCullough and Hallowed Hunt by Bujold. I'll probably go ahead and grab Firefly from the Best Buy near the hospital. Overplanning? Me?
Yeah, I'm nervous.
Meanwhile, here's my new icon... sorry I've forgotten whose post referred me to the TV station in the Northwest that put the picture up on the website...
